hello ~

october 16th of 2010 was my very first post on this blog.  wowzers.  i wasn’t really sure “how to begin”  or what i should say, really… but i’ll tell ya ~ with prayer and encouragement from my good friends, it’s been a rockin’ ride!  and really, really fun!  i’m so blessed to have made such awesome friends here!

thank you, to all of you ~ what a gift you all are!  and that is a birthday present i celebrate each and every day!

many of us favor the fall season the most, whether it’s about the beautiful colors, cooler weather, baking or gametime! and of course, it’s the time we start looking to holiday prep, too.

this quilted piece sure has those holiday-ish colors, and will be great for right now, on a coffee table, or dining table, until well into the thanksgiving season. it’s well suited to a fall arrangement of flowers, a candle, or on a wall if you so choose.

if you think it’s something that will suit you, or maybe make a gift for someone else… all you need do is just leave a comment…

this piece begins with the talented vicki welsh,  and her hand-dyed fabric!  {drool}  i stamped it with a hand-carved stamp,  using lumiere paint. i let it dry, and heat set the paint with the iron from the backside of the fabric.  i batted and quilted it.

all the quilting is done with superior’s ‘rainbows’ threads in variegated colors. i chose a variegated thread because of all the color in the fabric and design, and with it’s multiple colors, some disappear, and others come forward, which i like.

frankly, rainbow thread is not as strong as magnificobut magnifico thread is a solid colors, and i mostly wanted variegated colors on this piece.  i also desired to quilt it fairly lightly, so the imagery would be the star of the show, and the thread only an enhancer to the overall design.

one note about rainbows:  they do have a tendency to shred on me if i go too fast… so i slow down, and i use a topstitch needle {of course!}  ~  as well as turning down my top tension a full number or two.

it’s finished with razzle dazzle thread in the binding seam:

it’s a’glowin’ ~ in purple, orange, red, yellow ~  perfect for autumn!

size: 12.5″ x 12.5″ square.  if you like it… comment by the end of the day on sunday, october 13th.  i’ll post the winner on  monday, october 14th.

thank you for all your sweet encouragement.  it is so very much appreciated!
