cabin roses quilt ~

i’m still reminiscing about some beautiful, older quilts i made, and so enjoyed seeing them again, just recently, at my friend lori’s new home.  the pattern is a simplistic log cabin style. and who doesn’t love a log cabin?  {not me!}

i actually made two of these, {over ten years ago} and gave the second one to my friend, lori.  she has kept it in amazing and pristine condition. it was a delight to my eyes to see it ‘new-to-me’ after all this time. i still adore the color combos, and of course, the batik fabrics are something i have always gravitated towards.  in fact, if it wasn’t for batiks, i doubt i would have become a quilter!   and those brighter colors have always spoke “come hither” to me!

love those sweet ol’ traditional log cabin roses in this quilt.

i was so new to quilting… and it is truly simply quilted, in a soft, meandering line that circles the roses/centers.  i did use a metallic thread in the roses, and i don’t remember what i quilted the rest of the area with…although it was very simply done in wavy, “straightish” lines radiating out in equal-like angles from the center flowers. {two pics above}

it was just another great way to learn free motion, on a lap-size quilt or picnic-size quilt top without a whole lot of stress, i might add!

this is the super-cute pattern, designed by caroline kearney for studio 55:

i don’t know if you can buy the pattern anymore, but i think i need to make it again!  {gotta put it on that “list!”} it was fun to make, and oh-so-charming.  what a great pattern i sure loved as a new quilter.  go for what you love!  {always a good recommendation!}
