The snow has arrived here in beautiful Central Montana! It’s really perfect timing. After a whirlwind season of eight straight teaching weekends… I’m ready to slow down and enJoy… and since it wasn’t our first little snow teaser, I’m doubly glad for the inspiration it brings to my design mind! I’m so ready to hunker down, sketch out ideas… and get ready for Christmas… And this sweet pair of skates emulates the pair I owned and enjoyed in my childhood… skating the creeks of the countryside and a small town shallow pond. I loved those white skates. Wish i still had them. But this sweet quilt will have to suffice!
One of the less “flower intensive” projects, this quilt really has just two and a half poinsettias… I love cutting flowers in half! My students gasp when I do, but oh my. They go twice as far, and the layering affects are stunning! I chose to add in a few gray n’ white toned flowers, greenery and graphic black/white leaves.
Add in charming 1/4” black buttons, a black grosgrain ribbon, and charming snowflakes, and aspen trees in two different styles, and this pair of wool skates with it’s sweet little 1/4” size black buttons ~ on a bright blue and white herringbone patterned batik is super nostalgic! And… don’t forget a bit of wool plaid for the cuffs, and my signature silver accents for those cool skate blades!
About 21 x 30” in size. Be sure you have enough fabric if you choose a directional fabric for the background 🙂 … ask me how I know, right?!
Available as a paper pattern here. Or an instant download pdf here!
And you can make this sweet quilt in an afternoon! Seriously… a very fun and fast collage project you will be delighted to hang… or to give away. You will love it!
And I put together a few of the blue sky kits, and a few are still available, right here! Kits include everything you see… even the buttons, snowflake buttons… black grosgrain ribbon… pre-fused and hand cut flowers… background fabrics, with coordinating black herringbone binding, wool accents, silver blades fabric, AND the aspen trees in both varieties! While these links are through the Etsy site, just give me a jingle either on my Facebook Page, MarveLes Art Studios, or contact me here through the website!
And ~ the last pic features my aqua version with pink poinsettias! Kits made for this version by special order only!
Thanks for stopping by! And Happy Skating to you!
