City Chic ~ new pillow pattern!

hi there ~

the tax information is now off my desk, and off my mind! so,  with my office duties done, i’m “good to go” full bore into the sewing studio~yay!  and i’ve got a couple new patterns coming out, very soon.  it takes me days to write a pattern… i need to take breaks, and look at them again with “fresh eyes” after a few days. but that’s not a bad thing.  i try very hard to make my patterns instructional, and include as many helpful hints and tips, as i can fit in the pages!

so ~ i’ve found a new kind of floral print that i am sure loving for collage; they are real photographs of flowers, digitally printed onto fabric for the quilting industry.  i noticed a bolt of it in the sewing palace bernina quilt shop when i was teaching the last collage class, and i just had to snag some of it!  it’s really.  really.  beautiful.  {i believe it’s from robert kaufman fabrics, but that’s all i remember}

bonus:  it had super large scale flowers to super tiny flowers!

P E R F E C T !!!

and i happily added some of them to my BRAND NEW pillow pattern, “CITY CHIC!”

it’s a contemporary, modern and fresh.  black and white fabrics with lots of texture, bold stripes, and soft flowers.  i love it!  that black textured fabric holds such allure to me, and i enjoyed putting it into the stripes, and the binding.  it is also the same fabric in a white, with light gray text for the pillow background fabric.  it’s called “modern background” designed by  zen chic for  moda fabrics.

here is a slightly slanted view, as i was working and snapped a pic on my phone.  i added some fun little leaves, butterflies, and a few feathers too!  you can get a bit of an idea about the layering effect, too.  i like to cut many my flowers with a bit of an edge; about 1/16″ or so, when they don’t have a black, defined outline.  {that is a good tip!}

i stitched the stripes, free motion style, using white thread, but a black thread would have been good too.  and i added some of those darling new motifs from the karen lewis fabrics i recently purchased and  wrote about in my post, here, where i also referenced the importance of utilizing scale.
