good morning glories ~

everything in the shop is 10% with free shipping but until Monday.  see the previous post for the coupon code 🙂 and thank you!

i’ve enjoyed making a few more collaged pillows ~ from “my heart to give” collage pattern.  i sure do love the new contemporary fabrics so prevalent in the market right now and incorporating them into pillows with the addition of collage is such a fun way to bring their style into home decor.

and besides ~ i’m such a sucker for fabric with writing {almost every time}.

 i love it!

this pillow top sample was made for a new class i will be teaching in our beautiful city of missoula, across the mountains into the pretty westside; a perfect opportunity to showcase some of my darling graphic fabrics waiting to be put in the spotlight!

i will be at a sweet little shop called “the confident stitch” where this pillow pattern will be the focus of the class, on saturday, april 16th, from 11-4pm.  i’m so excited to be able to teach here!

image black and white graphic labels were a nice little embellishment for this pillow, as obviously that is the ongoing theme of the background fabric {from moda by zenchic i believe} and the binding.  the labels are from the sweet water company. love that the label’s graphic quality lends to the theme of the collage.  i sure want to learn how to make my very own labels… per chance ~ any ideas or apps anyone knows about that they enjoy using?

i get asked this question a lot, so here are some of my favorite collage fabrics to use {just to name a couple} are:

cori dantini, tula pink, and kaffe fasset and art gallery fabrics.  but i’m always keeping an eye out for new shapes, textures and great black and white flowers, too.  i always try to encourage students to think about how to add white and a black, as a way to balance all the busy bursts of color.  it doesn’t  have to be a dramatic black or stark white, but more importantly, the use of  light and dark colors within.  i’ll be sharing a few new fabric gems i found, and show how scale is important when looking for collage flowers too.  look for that info and pics in the next post ~ ahh~ a collage girls’ cutting chores never end!!  lol

and here is the next new collaged pillow. this one began with a beige background with brown text that is all about the names of God. my color theme?  brown, peach, blue. and shades of each! oh gosh ~ did i have fun adding extra embellishments: a sweet butterfly… a charming bumble bee, and two happy chickadees!   oh, and before i forget some special feathers i found, too. they were really fun to collage with.

the quilting makes all the difference doesn’t it? i love the added boost of subtle texture.  below is the collage before quilting:

and those feathers… metallic gold for added panache!

and a couple labels.

i love the quilted texture. it sure adds a beautiful dimension.  the pattern begins with a 24″ square of fabric, and by the time it’s squared up, quilted and finished, it’s about 22″ square, so i buy a 24″ pillow form to stuff it with so it’s nice and poofy.  but you can choose to stuff it any way you like!

i’m off to the printer to develop my next new pattern with a new style of collaged pillow, and then to the next collage class this weekend!  and of course, {naturally} to cut me some more flowers. 🙂

 hip hip hooray!

please keep those comments coming.  ‘cuz every time you comment, you get another entry for the “grand giveaway” and i’m counting from day one, ya know! i’ll share more of the details, soon, i promise.  which means… you still have time to go back and leave a comment if you haven’t already!  limit: one comment per person, per day.

i hope you’ll be excited about the total prize package.  i’m doing my best to make it “grand” so stay with me, k?

  1. You do absolutely beautiful work. You could always play with Picmonkey create your own saying/writings and then print them using Therm-O-Web’s HeatnBond EZ Print Transfer Sheets.

  3. Leslie, what beautiful collaged pillows and your embellishments are out of this world. Oh my gosh this new site..I don’t want to leave it, it is lovely, organized, and it grabs me somehow. . . I don’t want to leave! How do you do the edges? Did you put a zipper in? And the fabrics are gorgeous together. I tried to connect with Sweetwatero.com, but it doesn’t open:(
