red sunset ~ feathered

hello ~ and happy new year, {still!}

in 2014 you, dear reader, will definitely see more feather quilting from me…  and more hand dyed fabrics by two of my favorite dyers: vicki welsh, and chris daly.

color usually drives me to create, and it’s a fascinating exploration to combine both fiber, color and threads.

and speaking of color, vicki wrote a detailed post about bleeding fabrics in quilts.  i learned quite a bit, and you won’t be sorry you took a few minutes to read this educational post! vicki has invested alot of time in testing her results, and it applies to both hand dyeds, and commercial fabrics. it’s great information we can all benefit from!

and 2014 will continue to showcase  {magnifico by superior threads}. in this quilted runner piece, i chose to focus on the combos of rusty-orange-brown, turquoise/aqua and purple.  yum.  and with that, here are pictures of one of the pieces i ended 2013 with, “red sunset.” i should have called it sunrise, though… and it sure reminds me of the amazing sunrise we get in these wintery months with golden tree limbs, turquoise skies, and foggy mornings on the river…

thanks for taking the journey with me!
enJOY.
