Summer SHIMMER – Preview

(Not if but when!) … the spring to summer weather makes it’s debut in MT, I will post pictures of the Shibori dyeing with the PVC pipe. Until then… we live with the winter-barely into-spring weather!  As mentioned earlier, this is one of my first pieces of “shibori-inspired” hand dyed fabric which I made last summer on my back patio!  LOVE doing that!  You can see how the whole cloth piece started out in the post yesterday right here.
And so began my inspiration for this whole-cloth inspired art quilt. (This picture is tinted a bit yellow as the light in my studio isn’t quite correct for taking accurate color pictures.)

In the photo above I’ve used my terrific Bernina #43 free motion couching foot… Currently, I know of no other machine that has a foot THIS EASY TO USE!  I’ve used it to couch my favorite hand dyed yarn.  I’ve also added lots of bobbin play, using YLI threads, and Razzle Dazzle thread.  You can also see I’ve played with some Angelina “Textiva” film in a golden yellow colorway. (It’s the shiny cellophane-looking product in the top of the pic above)

And I’ve added some of my hand-dyed rayon ribbons — it’s an aqua-greenish-blue color.
I hope you’re intrigued, and will come back to see the finished art quilt.  I will also be posting pictures of the exact threads I used, and a tip for pulling up bobbin threads and tyeing off, as well as the “HOW TO’S” on angelina fibers and textiva films in this week’s posts.
Fun Fun Fun in the Sun!  (even if it’s only in my imagination)!
I think I want to play some BEACH BOYS music and get that summer-time inspiration warmed up!
