zippy strippy bags ~ #2

hi friends ~

i {almost} swoon when i see these two favorite colors ~ turquoise and orange ~ making such pretty harmony together.  they happen to be from the pre-purchased bali pops {my vacation shopping}. pre-cut at handy-dandy 2.5″ wide strips make them  ideal for this pouchy project, but buying them is such a time-saver as well!

having these little bundles is like having a sweet tooth!  just a little bit goes a long ways, and it’s a package of candy waiting to be enjoyed!

and  although i pulled only the aqua and oranges, i love that you can create several different color combos from those packages:

on this bag, i just tied a bitty strip of black fabric to add to the zipper pull.  i’ve been exploring new ideas with that little embellishment, and hopefully ~ will have a “fashion show” of those ideas to post by end of week!

a nicely finished lined interior is always a plus!

and the instructions tell you how to create  a box pleat, super easy to do, and i’ve been experimenting with width of that, especially in light of the fused labels and extra embellishments i want to add.  placement is important here, and you want to be conscious of that box pleat {which you do after embellishments} when you do:

that extra something  that really speaks to me? a bit of bling! this blingy crystal embellishment came from the local bernina silver thimble store, where i purchased it by the yard.  i’ve had it for a long time now, and it was pure delight to pull it out and use it on this project! i just cut a single row of it, and fused it on. the cool thing is that it’s already pre-fused, too:

i just aligned it with the seam for placement:

and with the  black batik print {from my stash} for the zipper pull accent, and it also encases the zipper end, uniting this bag with the black pop of accent:

the “life is good” label is from sweetwater on etsy.  i have a little stash of these fun little pre-fused fabric labels… and i am totally smitten with this choice. it’s definitely a “sweet” little punch of perfect graphic and color and makes this bag pop with charm.

the instructions are basically quilt as you go, and so it easily becomes fully lined as well.  then a simple matter of zig zagging the edges to make them nicely finished.

atkinson designs patterns are well written, and they include  really great tips and hints for sewing the zipper, and more.

and yes.  life is… indeed… good!

i’m so loving these!!  the more i make, the more ideas i get!

  1. I must say your zippy bag is smashing! Love the colors, the bling and the tips! I've gotta have some of those fun labels too. Thanks for sharing.
